Watertown City Council to repair sidewalk, discusses unfinished restrooms at The Ruins Apartments

WATERTOWN, S.D.(Press Release)- Residents of and near 315 Kemp Ave. East can expect to see a repaired sidewalk soon. The council passed a resolution authorizing the city to fix the sidewalk themself and bill the property owner of “The Ruins” unfinished apartment complex.

Assistant City Manager/Public Works Director Heath VonEye explained more to the council.

No one was present to speak in opposition.

Councilman Lynn Jurrens commented.

Deputy Mayor Councilman Randy Tupper asked if there was any timeline. Following any required waiting period, the city will move forward as soon as possible since the bidding process has already been done.

Councilman Danforth raised concerns about the unfinished public restrooms at The Ruins Apartments complex. The developer was obligated to construct public restrooms as part of an earlier agreement.

Watertown City Attorney Lisa Carrico said the contract lacked specifics on deadlines.

Councilman Kyle Peters confirmed no public restrooms are available at The Ruins, but City Manager Mack commented that “it is about 80% done.”
