Recap of First annual Blue Jeans BBQ

ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- On Sunday, the Brown County Democrats conducted their first annual Blue Jeans BBQ at Wylie Park in Aberdeen.  Those in attendance had an opportunity to hear from candidates running for elections in the region & in South Dakota.

Sheryl Johnson is the Democratic candidate for the U.S. House against incumbant Representative Dusty Johnson.  She talks about her optimism for the party heading into this election with Vice President Kamala Harris the apparent nominee for President of the United States.

Johnson discuss the theme of her campaign.

Johnson is a military wife and one of reasons she’s running is Congressman Johnson’s vote on the PAC Act for veterans impacted by what happen in Afghanistan.  She compares this to her time at Camp Lejuene back in the 1990s.

Johnson also talks about other bills the Congressman opposed that she would have supported if she was in Congress.

Sheryl Johnson believe the Congressman is taking this race for granted and is getting ready for a possible Governor’s run 2026.

Members of the audience also got to hear from other candidates.

District 3 House candidate Erin Rudner talks about her campaign and her plans to improve Aberdeen.

Rudner talks about her opposition to political monopolies taking place out in Pierre.

Rudner discuss the impact the primary had for this upcoming election in November.

District 1 House candidate Steven McCleery(who served in the SD Legislature from 2015-20) discuss background.

McCleery big issue is rural healthcare and discuss a bill he was working on back in 2019.

McCleery also address his opinion on the carbon sequestration process.

McCleery believes this issue goes beyond just the pipelines.

The other District 1 House candidate is Mark Sumption who just started his campaign this week.

The general election is on Tuesday, November 5th.
