Aberdeen, SD (NSUWolves.com) – Northern State University and Sanford Health announced today the promotion of Janelle Haas to head athletic trainer. Haas joined the Wolves and Sanford Sports medicine in the fall of 2023, following a 5-year stint at Presentation College.
“Janelle will do an excellent job in her leadership role at Northern State University,” said Nicole Sumner, Director of Clinic Operations and Ancillary Services, Sanford Health Aberdeen and Ipswich. “We are proud of her, and our entire NSU team, and honored to serve the student-athletes, coaches and athletics staff.”
“I am honored to step into the role of head athletic trainer at NSU,” explained Haas. “I look forward to leading our staff in enhancing the standard of care we provide and supporting our student-athletes.”
Haas spent the 2023-24 academic year as the primary athletic trainer for the soccer and softball programs. In addition to leading the sports medicine department, she will serve as a member of the Northern State C.A.R.E.S. committee.
“We are thrilled to promote Janelle into the head athletic trainer position,” noted Director of Athletics Nate Davis. “She came to Sanford and Northern State last year with great experience in her career and has been a tremendous addition to the staff. We have a talented team of sports medicine professionals and I know Janelle will provide great leadership to that group. We have an outstanding partnership with Sanford that allows us to recruit and retain a quality sports medicine staff as we continue to prioritize the student-athlete experience and the care we provide for them.”
At Presentation College, Haas worked directly with the volleyball, men’s basketball, and baseball programs. In addition, she served as the clinical preceptor for athletic training students in the PC Athletic Training Program, assisted with practicum testing, and was the athletics representative on the Campus Assessment, Evaluation, and Response team.
Haas opened her career in athletic training as a student at the University of North Dakota. She completed rotations and provided coverage for eight NCAA Division I programs while earning her bachelor’s degree. Haas then served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at the Orthopedic Institute and South Dakota State in Brookings.
Haas is a BOC Certified athletic trainer and licensed through the State of South Dakota. She is also a member of the American Heart Association, National Athletic Trainers Association, Mid-America Athletic Trainers Association, and the South Dakota Athletic Trainers Association.
She earned her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from the University of North Dakota. Haas resides in Aberdeen with her husband, Matthew.
