ACLU is looking for volunteers for 2024 elections

ABERDEEN, S.D.(Press Release)- For years, the ACLU has been engaged in election protection efforts, working to ensure easy, fair and safe access to the ballot box. We do this by working with our partners to provide individual assistance through the Election Protection Hotline, by addressing systemic issues affecting access to the polls, and, when necessary, seeking relief for voters in the courts.

But this year, we’re looking to do more. That’s why the ACLU is recruiting volunteers in Aberdeen to be a part of our Election Protection Team and serve as Election Observers on Election Day.

Election Observers will play a crucial role in monitoring polling places for issues affecting voters, ensuring there is no voter disenfranchisement and tracking any problems that can be fixed for future elections. For example, we saw some issues during the Primary Election in Sioux Falls when dozens of absentee ballots were challenged.

We’re training volunteers in Aberdeen on Aug. 20 (6 p.m. at the K.O. Lee Aberdeen Public Library).
