2024 Walk to end Alzheimer’s on September 21st

ABERDEEN, S.D.(Press Release) – The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting Aberdeen-area residents to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s® on Saturday, September 21 at 10:00 a.m. at the Strode Activity Center athletic fields on the former Presentation College campus. *In case of inclement weather, the event will be held inside the Strode Activity Center.” Primrose Retirement Communities returns as presenting sponsor.

“This is a pivotal moment in the fight against Alzheimer’s. There are now treatments being delivered right here in South Dakota that can change the course of the disease,” said Leslie Morrow, Executive Director of the South Dakota Chapter. “I invite everyone in the Aberdeen area to join us by starting a Walk to End Alzheimer’s team to help raise awareness and funds that help South Dakota families facing the disease today, take more steps toward treatments, and one day end this disease.”

The Alzheimer’s Association provides a caregiver support group in Aberdeen on the 2nd Tuesday of the month from 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at New Life Fellowship Church, and offers free education programs to businesses, churches and community groups in the area. Trained staff also offer care and support and a 24/7 Helpline at  800.272.3900. “None of these services would be available without the Walk to End Alzheimer’s,” adds Morrow.

Walk to End Alzheimer’s participants honor those affected by the disease by carrying a pinwheel flower signifying their connection to the disease. Those living with Alzheimer’s will carry a blue flower, while caregivers hold a yellow flower. Walkers who have lost someone to Alzheimer’s or another dementia carry a purple flower and those who support the cause hold an orange flower.

Nearly 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, including more than 16,500 people living with the disease and 27,000 caregivers in South Dakota. To register and receive the latest updates on this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s, visit alz.org/walk.
