Donna Hoines, 90

Britton, SD: The funeral service for Donna Hoines will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at First Lutheran Church. Diane Hoines will officiate the service. Burial will be at the Detroit Cemetery under the direction of Olson Funeral Chapel.

 

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

 

Donna was born January 3, 1934 to Wayne and Elma (Borchers) Wade. She attended school in Amherst and Britton, graduating from Britton High School in 1952. After graduation she completed a teaching course at Northern in Aberdeen, SD.

 

Donna’s work life started at an early age, as her first job outside the home began while she was an eighth grader. After college she taught at country schools in Marshall County. It was during this time she met Philip Hoines. The two were married on October 31, 1953. They lived by Claremont their entire married life. Donna moved to Wheatcrest Hills in Britton in 2016.

 

In addition to caring for her family, helping on the farm and raising a garden, Donna also worked at various places in Claremont. Working at the school evolved into her main career. She started as a cook in Claremont and then worked several years as a teacher’s aide and playground supervisor in Langford. Additionally Donna served in various offices at Falnes Church and was the church secretary when Pastor Ed Gilbertson was the minister.

 

Donna passed away peacefully Friday, September 27, 2024 at Marshall County Healthcare Center in Britton, at the age of 90.

 

Donna is survived by her daughter, Carma (Lynn) Ruenz  of Hecla and son, Mark (Faye) Hoines of Claremont; four grandchildren: Michelle (Adam) Little of Victoria, MN, Jacob (Shelly) Ruenz of Hecla, Joshua (Jessica) Ruenz of Warner, SD, and Lyndse (Ryan) Dellman of Hecla; eight great-grandchildren will continue Grandma Donna’s legacy: Sawyer and Skylar Little, Treyton and Jaelynn Ruenz, Jocelyn and Jayce Ruenz, and Dylan and Carly Dellman.

 

Preceding her in death are her husband; a grandson, Dillon; her parents; and her siblings: Duane “Skip” Wade, Vivian Scott, Orene “Butch” Wade and Henry “Swede” Wade.
