ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- On Monday(Veterans Day), Aberdeen Central High School hosted their annual Veteran Day ceremonies honoring those who served in the military.

The keynote speaker was Retired Brigadier General Joel De Groot.

De Groot talks about the percentage of Americans who will join the military during their lifetime.

De Groot praise those who serve in the military.

De Groot talks about how much money defense spending was done in 2024 to protect freedom all around the world.

De Groot acknowledge the role the military does here in the U.S.

De Groot’s daughter Maria is currently deployed in the Middle East and a former Aberdeen Central graduate.  De Groot read a letter she wrote for the students to hear.(1:27)

Veterans Day is honored on November 11th since 1919 when back then it was known at Armistice Day.  It was changed to Veterans Day in 1954.
