PIERRE, S.D. (WNAX) – A legislative committee dealing with illegal drugs held their first meeting of the summer Monday.
The “Offenses Regarding Controlled Substances” interim study met in Pierre.
In a back and forth with committee members, Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg says under current law it is difficult to get information from drug offenders.
Ravnsborg says without changes, there will be more illegal drug users.
State Court Administrator Greg Sattizahn says it is more than a legal problem.
Committee Chairman, Representative Steven Haugaard of Sioux Falls, says those using drugs know what they are doing.
The committee will meet again this fall to see if they can come up with some recommendations for the 2020 session.
