Accident on I-90 in Jackson County Tuesday

PIERRE, S.D.(KCCR)- A crash Tuesday in Jackson County is yet another reminder for drivers to pay attention to the road when driving.  According to a post on the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page a sheriff’s vehicle was rear-ended by an S-U-V that did substanial damage to the sheriff’s vehicle, crushing the tailgate up to the rear wheel.  According to the post both the Sheriff Tucker Amiotte and the S-U-V driver survived.  Ironically also on Tuesday, South Dakota Transportation Secretary Joel Jundt says his department is looking to bring legislation to improve the state’s move-over law.

South Dakota passed a move-over law to protect first responders after the death of a tow truck driver during the 2022 legislative session.  The crash closed eastbound Interstate 90 from Wall to Cactus Flat until the crash was cleared.
