YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) – While South Dakota legislators are involved with a large number of summer study committees, there is one interim committee that hasn’t set a meeting date yet.
Senator Craig Kennedy of Yankton says the Ag Land Assessment Task Force is waiting on a report from South Dakota State University.
Kennedy says the SDSU proposal would change how ag land is valued for tax purposes.
The test, in 10 to 15 counties, will look at the differences between highest and best use of land to most probable use.
Kennedy says they hope to have some information before the start of the 2020 session, and may meet later this year.
There have been complaints of big jumps in property taxes under the productivity model that has been in use for the last 10 years.
