ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- Aberdeen City Council held their meeting on Tuesday night discussing their decision on being a party status for Summit Carbon Solutions’ CO2 pipeline request with the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission.
Aberdeen City Attorney Ron Wager(Wag-er) recap the PUC meeting held Friday here in Aberdeen.
Wager describe the difference between intervention and party status.
Wager talks about the term of preemption in dealing with government matters.
Brown County Commission has an ordinance in place where the pipeline must be at least 1500 feet from the property for siting reasons. Wager explains that the projected route will be more than 1500 feet from the city itself.
For these reasons, Wager offered his recommendation to not be a party status with the PUC.
Brown County landowner Craig Schnauman offered up a suggestion what the city can do with the PUC.
Aberdeen City Councilman David Novstrup agrees with what Ron Wager has to say but still feels that the council should still comment on their stance with the PUC.
The Aberdeen City Council did no formal action on becoming a party status and with the deadline coming up on Friday are not planning to. The council may do a resolution offering their support for what the Brown County Commission is doing going forward.
