ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The House Agriculture & Natural Resources Committee had HB1026 on their docket Tuesdy.  HB1026 make an appropriation for the replacement of the Richmond Lake dam and spillway, for the general maintenance and repair of other state-owned dams, and to declare an emergency.

Commissioner of Schools & Public Lands Brock Greenfield provide history of the dam.

Greenfield inform the committee about money they would be receiving from FEMA for this project.

Greenfield discuss a presentation done by Barr Engineering.

Greenfield talks about how much money will be approved if HB1026 does pass.

Aberdeen lobbyist Mike Bockorny explains why this bill needs to get passed.

Julie Johnson who resides near Richmond Lake also talks about her involvement over the past few years.

Representative Drew Peterson from Salem asked Greenfield whether Brown County should be more involved in this process.

Bockorny also chimed in on Peterson’s question.

Representative Spencer Gosch of Glenham moved to send the bill to Joint Appropriations Committee.

Representative Peterson expressed opposition believing that Brown County should be more involved in this.

The bill was passed on a 11-2 vote and now moves to Joint Appropriations Committee.
