PIERRE, S.D.(SDBA)- Despite warnings of legal challenges, South Dakota’s Senate has narrowly approved requiring schools to display and teach the Ten Commandments.
The 18-17 vote Tuesday came after senators added protection for schools against lawsuit costs.
The measure requires posting the biblical laws in every classroom.
Supporters say it helps students understand the nation’s religious foundations, while critics call it government overreach.
House members take up the bill next.
