SB71 passes out of the South Dakota Senate

PIERRE, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The South Dakota Senate Education Committee on Tuesday, debated SB71.

The bill revise provisions pertaining to the compulsory age for school attendance.

Prime sponsor is Senator Michael Rohl of Aberdeen.  He gives the details of the bill

Rohl explain his support dealing with students who don’t want to persue an education.

Opposing the bill was Sandra Waltman with the South Dakota Education Association.

Senator Sue Peterson of Sioux Falls moved to pass the bill.

Opposing it on the committee was Senator Jamie Smith also from Sioux Falls.

The bill passed out the committee on a 5-2.

On Thursday, the bill cleared the South Dakota Senate on a 34-1 vote and now moves on to the South Dakota House.
