ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- On Friday, legislators from District 1(Represenative Logan Manhart), and District 3(Representative Al Novstrup & Senator Carl Perry) spoke to student at Aberdeen Central High School. The majority of question asked dealt with what happening with the schools.
District 1 Representative Logan Manhart:
Manhart was asked about about whether the Ten Commandments should be on display at public schools. The bill he is referring to SB51 that address that.
Manhart talked about a bill he introduced on Thursday, HB1201 that deals with what counselors should be informing the student’s parents about.
Manhart discuss HB1020 that dealt with the ESAs(Education Savings Accounts) that was defeated by the committee he’s on, the House Education Committee.
Manhart along with Representive Al Novstrup discuss the topics of free meal or the state contribution to reduced meals at public schools(HB1089).
District 3 Representative Al Novstrup:
Representative Novstrup also addressed Manhart’s bill dealing with counselors.
Novstrup was asked about whether the state sales tax would go up to 5% and how that could impact schools.
Novstrup is a firm believer of what is best for parents with regards to what type of schooling they want to provide the child.
Novstrup was asked about library funding since he is on the Appropriations Committee. He informed the student his #1 priority is the Richmond Lake Dam project above all others.
District 3 Senator Carl Perry:
Senator Perry was asked about why he supported SB51 that deals with the Ten Commandments.
Perry also address the potential 5% state sales tax that has been proposed.
Perry discuss HB1020 that didn’t clear the House Education Committee that was promoted by both former Governor Kristi Noem & current governor Larry Rhoden.
Perry also expressed his view on Senator Rounds’ bill to abolish the Department of Education.
Legislature is in recess until Monday.
