JAMESTOWN, ND (JimmiePride.com) – University of Jamestown head football coach Brian Mistro announced the hiring of Tom Dosch as the Associate Head Coach and Special Teams Coordinator. This will be a homecoming of sorts as Dosch was the head football coach for the Jimmies from 2004-2007.
“I’m excited to join the Jimmie football staff and the entire University of Jamestown campus,” Dosch stated. “President Polly Peterson, Athletic Director Austin Heib and the entire UJ administration have made a huge commitment to allow the Jimmies to be competitive in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and the Division II level. In addition, I am looking forward to rejoining Head Coach Brian Mistro, Defensive Coordinator Shane Clancy, and Strength and Conditioning Coach Ryder Weischedel, who I have worked with in the past. I also look forward to joining the rest of the staff as we move into a new era of Jimmie Football. Go Jimmies.”
The return to the Jimmies also marks what served as the beginning of his long and decorated career in the profession. In 1995, Dosch served as the offensive coordinator and assistant head coach. He would begin his head coaching career with the University of Jamestown in 2004. During his four-year stint (2004-2007) as the head coach, he compiled a 25-17 record and two playoff berths. In 2007, the Dosch-led Jimmies secured a No.6 ranking and were named the Dakota Athletic Conference Champions.
Prior to becoming the special teams coordinator for the Jimmies, Dosch returned to the University of North Dakota as the outside linebackers coach for two seasons. In 2023, he coached outside linebacker Ted Mullin to a honorable mention All-MVFC nod. Dosch also served eight seasons (1995-2003) as the defensive line and outside linebackers coach. UND won five conference titles during that span – including two national championship appearances – as well as the Division II National Championship in 2001.
Before his time at the University of North Dakota, Dosch was the head coach at Northern State University. In his 10 years as the head coach for the NSIC member Wolves, he compiled numerous honors. In 2015, NSU won a share of the NSIC North Division title after a 6-5 campaign. A year prior in 2014, Dosch would be named NSIC Coach of the year, leading the Wolves had its best season since 1999. NSU finished the season with an 8-3 record and a 6-1 mark in the NSIC North Division – good for second in the North and fourth overall in the conference – making it the best finish for NSU since the 2005 season. Dosch would be named NSIC Coach of the year in 2014.
Prior to his time at Northern State, Dosch spent two seasons at Southern Illinois University, coaching the inside linebackers and serving as the special teams coordinator. The Salukis won the MVFC championship in both of those seasons and qualified for the NCAA FCS playoffs in both 2008 and 2009.
Dosch was a four-year letter-winner and two-year starter at Dickinson State. He also spent two seasons with the basketball program before graduating in 1992. After his collegiate playing career, Dosch spent the 1991 season coaching the wide receivers at Dickinson State.
Dosch and his wife, Tina, have a daughter Lauren, and son Matthew.
