PIERRE, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- the South Dakota House Commerce & Energy Committee heard testimony on HB1202.  The bill permit the state to invest in Bitcoin.

Prime sponsor of the bill was Representative Logan Manhart of Aberdeen.

Manhart told the committee this does not mean that the state is required to invest in Bitcoin.

Ben Wiener with the South Dakota Blockchain Institute discuss the benefits of the bill.

Among the opposition, South Dakota State Investment Officer Matt Clark who talked about the risk of investing in BitCoin.

Among the committee members, Representative Lana Greenfield of Doland talked about her opposition to the bill.

The committee sent the bill to the 41st day on a 9-3 vote killing the bill.
