Wolves Go Down Swinging To Mavs To Open Season

St. Peter, MN (NSUWolves.com) – The Northern State University baseball team fell short, 6-1 and 14-7, against RV Minnesota State to start the season. An explosive offense by the Mavericks early in game one and late in game two kept the win out of reach for the Wolves. The day saw Nick Friedges and Drew Benson both record a double and a home run each.

  • Minnesota State kicked off the second game with five runs in the second inning
  • Nick Friedges knocked the ball over the right field wall in the third for a three-run home run, scoring Jonah Schmidt and Drew Benson
  • The Mavericks responded with two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to lead, 7-3
  • In the fifth inning, Jack Weidner found a hole on the left side for a single that scored Brennan Phillips
  • Benson closed out the inning for the Wolves with a three-run home run that scored Weidner and Nickolas Ochoa to tie the game, 7-7
