ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- During the 2025 South Dakota Legislative Session, the South Dakota Senate addressed SB103. The bill would ban vote centers from being used during elections. Brown County is among those that use vote centers. The bill was defeated on the Senate Floor.
During Tuesday’s Brown County Commission meeting, Brown County Auditor Lynn Heupel addressed precincts the city of Aberdeen could use in case that type of bill was to be brought up once again and passed.
Heupel talks about how many precincts are currently in Aberdeen.
Heupel presented four different options to the commission.
Brown County Commissioner Duane Sutton favor option 3 which closely resemble that of city districts.
Commissioner Drew Dennert favored option 4 which would include six precinct people.
Also supporting the 4th option is Brown County GOP Chair Rich Hilgemann.
Hilgemann’s motivation is to keep as many precinct people as possible to represent Aberdeen.
Senator Carl Perry provided details on SB103 that was defeated on the Senate floor.
No action was taken or needed at this time by the Brown County Commission.
