NSU Drops Two To SMSU

Marshall, MN (NSUWolves.com) – The Northern State University softball team fell twice to Southwest Minnesota State on Sunday afternoon. The Wolves scored seven runs on 18 hits in the two contests and gave up one defensive error in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1
  • Avarie Eagle plated the Wolves two runs in the game one a double to right center in the top of the first; Eden Ford and Madi Jones scored on the play after reaching base on a walk and single
  • The Mustangs added a run in the second and fourth innings to tie the game and grabbed the lead in the bottom of the sixth
  • Northern scored their two runs on seven hits, leaving five runners on base, while Southwest scored their three runs on eight hits
  • Addy Hobza led the offense, going a perfect 3-for-3, while Eagle and Dessa Bryant each tallied doubles
  • Ford and Jones added the team’s final two hits in the contest
  • Abby Rux started for NSU, suffering the loss in 6.0 innings of work; the senior gave up three runs on eight hits with three walks and a strikeout

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 2
  • Northern scored five runs on 11 hits in the second contest, recording two in the fourth, two in the fifth, and one in the sixth
  • The Mustangs scored early and often with two runs in the first, three in the second, three in the fourth, one in the fifth, and two in the sixth
  • Down 5-0 heading in to the fourth, Tevan Bryant put the Wolves on the board with her fourth home run of the season, scoring Madi Jones who reached on a single to left
  • SMSU responded however, NSU was back in business in the fifth with a pair of runs; Jones singled in Addy Hobza and Bryant singled in Eden Ford
  • Emma Owens scored the final run of the game for Northern in the sixth on a single to right by Kennedy Boyer
  • Seven Wolves recorded a hit in the contest led by Tevan Bryant going a perfect 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBI
  • Jones and Boyer added two hits each, while Dessa Bryant recorded a double down the left field line in the first
  • Aune Boben started for NSU suffering the loss in 3.1 innings of work, giving up eight runs on eight hits with two walks and a strikeout
  • Abby Rux entered in relief, throwing the final 2.2 innings of action
