SM Mines Tabes Next Head Men’s BB Coach

RAPID CITY, SD (gorockers.com) – South Dakota Mines is ushering in a new era of Hardrocker basketball with the appointment of Michael Iseman as the head men’s basketball coach.

Mines Athletics Director David Crum recently announced the hire, citing Iseman’s professionalism, presence and clearly articulated vision for the future of Hardrocker basketball.

“Coach Iseman is a leader ready to elevate the program both on and off the court,” Crum said. “His strong, credible references from established leaders in the basketball coaching community are a testament to his character and coaching abilities.”

Iseman comes to Mines with a decade of collegiate basketball coaching experience with his most recent as assistant coach for Missouri University of Science and Technology where he helped lead the team to a Great Lakes Valley Conference championship, the team’s first NCAA Tournament bid in nearly 30 years and its highest NCAA DII ranking in program history.

Iseman’s experience took him all over the Midwest, coaching in Illinois, Minnesota, and North Dakota, where he continually helped lead teams to successful seasons.

“Coach Iseman demonstrates a consistent winning pedigree across multiple diverse institutions – successfully adapting and excelling in programs with varying cultures, resources, and competitive environments,” Crum said. “He has a strong track record of attracting top-tier talent, including recent success recruiting high-achieving athletes to a rigorous STEM-based university.”

Iseman said he is excited to be part of the Hardrocker family and Rapid City community.

“My family and I are extremely excited to join the South Dakota Mines family as well as the Rapid City community. I knew early on during the interview process that South Dakota Mines was a special place,” Iseman said. “Mines has great people, great support, is elite academically and is located in a vibrant city. I’m excited to build Hardrocker men’s basketball into a consistent winner and a program that the community can be proud of. I look forward to becoming part of the local community and meeting everyone. Go Hardrockers!”

In addition to his coaching experience, Iseman played for Central College in Pella, Iowa, where he helped lead the team to the 2014 Iowa Conference championship and NCAA Division III National Tournament.

Iseman has a Bachelor of Arts in business management from Central College and a Master of Arts in leadership from the University of Jamestown in North Dakota.

“I want to thank Dr. Tande, David Crum and the entire search firm for this amazing opportunity. I also want to thank my family, mentors and everyone who have helped me reach my goals and dreams along the way.”

Iseman’s first day will be Tuesday, April 22.
