Orange City, IA (NSUWolves.com) – The Northern State University track and field teams closed out their weekend on Friday with 35 top-5 finishes at the Northwestern Red Raider Open. The Wolves recorded seven event victories by Joel Matehs, Justin Jacobson, Morgan Sheldon, Anna Skachenko, Renea Taylor, Summer Carlson, and the women’s 4x100m relay.
HOW IT HAPPENED FOR THE MEN
- Chris Weber finished third in the 100m with a time of 10.62, prior to a prelims time of 10.49
- Luke Campbell and Greyson Schuetzle took sixth and seventh in the 110m hurdles with times of 15.35 and 16.08
- Drew Salfrank ran to a third place finish in the 200m with a time of 22.46, followed by Ty Kadlec and Geoffrey Mannino in fourth and fifth with matching times of 22.49
- Four Wolves landed in the top-5 of the 400m hurdles, led by race winner Joel Matehs with a time of 54.92
- Gracen Hansen, Drew Henriksen, and Campbell took third through fifth with times of 56.25, 26.96, and 58.20
- The trio of Lincoln Woodring, Dylan Schimke, and Jessup Pederson finished third through fifth in the 800m with times of 1:58.03, 1:59.53, and 2:00.77
- David VanVeen raced to a third place finish in the 1500m with a time of 4:01.46
- Moving to the throwing events, Justin Jacobson won the discus with a 51.98m toss, while Ethan Barnett took fourth, throwing 44.74m
- Jeffrey Boschee finished as the runner-up in the high jump, clearing 1.91m
- Jayden Munroe and Treyson Schulz took second and fourth in the long jump with marks of 7.06m and 6.68m
- A pair of 4x100m squads took second and third with times of 41.37 and 42.81; the team of Salfrank, Weber, Kadlec and Julian Scott took second, while the team of Jesse Pietz, Peyton Mausbach, Mannino, and Schulz took third
- The 4x400m team of Henriksen, Gracen Hansen, Pederson, and Woodring finished in fifth with a time of 3:28.56
HOW IT HAPPENED FOR THE WOMEN
- Morgan Sheldon won both the prelims and finals of the 100m hurdles with a prelims time of 15.18 and finals mark of 14.81
- Addison Cumbow and Tayla Dobrenski followed with third and fifth place finishes, crossing the line in 15.64 and 15.86
- Sheldon moved on to the 200m, where she took sixth, crossing the finish line in 27.47
- Anna Skachenko won the 400m with a time of 57.26
- Renea Taylor led three Wolves in the 400m hurdles, winning the race with a time of 1:03.72
- Elisabet Osk Jonsdottir and Emma Hunt followed in second and fourth with finishing times of 1:06.14 and 1:08.53
- Summer Carlson notched the fourth event victory for the Wolves in the 800m with a time of 2:15.52, while Alli Jackson and Payton Kemnitz took fourth and eighth with times of 2:22.87 and 2:26.22
- Abby Hasart rounded out the top-10 of the 1500m with a time of 5:14.98
- Jolie Dugan added a fifth place finish in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 12:01.25
- Andi Mehrer and Brooke Mushatt took second and third in the discus, throwing 42.35m and 41.27m
- Dobrenski added a third place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.61m
- Four Wolves landed in the top-10 of the long jump, led by Sheldon and Cumbow with marks of 4.88m and 4.82m in sixth and seventh
- Kamryn Schwartz and Jordan West took ninth and tenth in the long jump, jumping 4.71m and 4.53m
- The 4x100m relay crew of Jonsdottir, Taylor, Skachenko, and Kyanna Collymore won the event with a time of 47.83

The Wolves are set for a busy week following the holiday weekend. Northern will kick things off on Tuesday at the Valley City Twilight. Competition then continues Wednesday through Saturday at the Drake Relays. Tuesday’s meet begins at 2 p.m. in Valley City.
