SD PUC deny Summit’s CO2 pipeline

PIERRE, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- On Tuesday, the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission addressed some landowners’ request to deny Summit Carbon Solutions CO2 pipeline request.

One key aspect was that Summit needed to submint a plan to the PUC following the last meeting on April 10th.  The plan was submitted to them on April 17th.

Jorde stated an example of McPherson County.

Lawyer representing Summit, Brett Koenecke counter arguments presented by Brian Jorde.

Koenecke explains that denying it would be prejudicial to Summit.

Lawyer representing the LRC(Legislative Research Council) Logan Schaefbauer discuss the route planned by Summit Carbon Solutions.

Upon hearing testimony, Commission Kristie Fiegen motioned to deny Summit’s request and explains the project is not ready at this time.

Commissioner Chris Nelson who back on April 10th proposed to deny, on Tuesday discuss his now opposition to denying it.

Commissioner Gary Hanson voted to deny the motion and explains why.

The PUC voted 2-1 to deny Summit’s application for the pipeline without prejudice.  This allow them to reapply at a later time if they choose to continue with the project in the state.
