SIOUX FALLS / ABERDEEN (HubCityRadio.com) – Over this past weekend the Aberdeen Smittys dropped four games against three Sioux Falls (area) teams. Falling to Sioux Falls Washington on Saturday, 10-1 & then SF Roosevelt 6-5. Aberdeen returned home against Harrisburg and fell in a pair of games, 2-0 & 6-2.

The first game against Sioux Falls Washington got off to a rough start. The Smittys trailed 4-0 after the first inning and then 10-0 after the first three innings. Aberdeen avoided the shutout by putting up one in the top of the fourth inning. The Smittys were out-hit 10 to three and committed a pair of errors in the field.

Against SF Roosevelt, the Smittys struck first with two in the top of the first inning and the game was tied going at four into the top of the fourth inning. In the bottom of the fourth, Roosevelt struck for two and the Smittys couldn’t overcome that deficit, eventually falling 6-5. On offense Joe Cogley went 2-3 with a pair of runs scored and two runs batted in. Brayden Bowman also had two RBI.

Returning home on Sunday, the Smittys dropped the first contest 2-0. On the hill, Joran Foss was stellar. He went five innings, scattering four hits, only surrendering one earned run while striking out five Tiger batters. Unfortunately for the Smittys, the offense couldn’t get anything going; only picking up five hits for the afternoon and committing three errors in the field on defense.

In game two, Michael Dutenhoffer went four and two thirds innings and scattered four hits, four earned runs and also struck out four Harrisburg hitters. But much like game one, the Smittys offense wasn’t able to muster enough firepower over seven innings to win the game. Harrisburg out-hit Aberdeen nine to two and Harrisburg was perfect in the field with no errors, while the Smittys committed one.

After the games against Harrisburg, skipper Nathan Gonnelly shared his thoughts, “The boys played really well today, our pitchers pitched phenomenal, Michael Dutenhoffer, Joran Foss, Brayden Bowman came in and delivered,” Gonnelly said, “…we had some minor errors here and there, but overall we did fine.”

Gonnelly continued, “Harrisburg is a good team, but we battled. Karson Borge & Joe Cogley did a nice job putting the ball in play & we did some nice things on the base paths…We competed with the number one and two teams in the state & we’ve got that experience for later on…overall it was a good day.”

The Smittys return home on Saturday at Fossum Field against SF O’Gorman at one and three in the afternoon. Coverage of those games will be on HubCityRadio.com with Ryan Martin on play-by-play, courtesy of Culvers of Aberdeen.
