SIOUX FALLS, SD (HubCityRadio.com) – The Aberdeen Smittys saw their (high school) season come to an end on Friday in Sioux Falls in the super regional against Bishop O’Gorman, falling 12-5 in game one & 13-2 in game two.
In game one, the Smittys struck for two runs in the top of the first inning, but that lead would be short lived. O’Gorman put a crooked four on the board to take a 4-2 lead after one; Aberdeen struck back with a pair to tie things up at four, but OG added three in the bottom frame and never looked back. The Knights added some insurance in innings three, four and six en route to a 12-5 win. The Smittys defense struggled in the field, with five errors and Joe Cogley took the loss. Cogley went two innings and scattered five hits, seven runs and six of them were earned, he walked five and struck out a pair. On offense, Grant Beyer crossed home plate twice and went 1-2 with a run batted in.
In game two, the Smittys had a tough time getting anything going on offense, being held to just one hit by the OG hurler John Lent. Lent struck out 11 and Aberdeen had three errors in the field and the Knights put up a seven spot in the fourth inning to take a commanding 12-1 lead and eventually would win 13-2 in a five inning run rule victory.
The Smittys end their season 7-14-1 and open their legion season on Wednesday May 28th against Watertown at Fossum Field at five & seven in the evening.
