PIERRE, S.D. (WNAX) – More wind energy sites will be built across South Dakota over the next couple of years.

Public Utilities Commissioner Chris Nelson says they are letting the marketplace determine how much is enough wind power.

Nelson says most of the power produced by those plants will go out of state.

Nelson says three major power lines have been built in the last few years, which can carry the extra energy from the wind generators.

The current project approvals would add around 700 turbines and raise the total of wind generated energy to 3,600 megawatts.
