Braun Second, Crawford Qualifies For Notah Begay National Championship

SPEARFISH, SD (HubCityRadio.com) – The SDGA Sanford International Series headed out west to Spearfish at Elkhorn Ridge Golf Course on Wednesday and once again, Aberdeen’s Olivia Braun is right in the mix for the two day tournament.

 

Braun carded a (+5, 77) for the first day of two. After a tough start for Braun, with a pair of bogey’s and a double bogey on the first three holes, Braun settled into the round; earning a birdie on the par five fourth hole. On the back nine, she picked up seven pars and one bogey and one birdie – shooting even par on the back half of the round.

 

Her opposition, Kaitlin Strain, finished the first day at (+3, 75) and two strokes ahead of Braun. She bogey’d the first hole and then the seventh, she birdied the par five fifth hole to shoot one over for the front half. She’d have four bogeys on the back nine, but also a pair of birdies and sitting in first place after the first day of action.

 

Aberdeen’s Claire Crawford sits in the middle of the pack, seventh place (of 14 golfers) after the first day; Crawford shot a (+16, 88) for day one, with six par’s for her round. She also qualified for the Notah Begay National Championships, finishing in the top four for the girls 16-18 age bracket.

 

On the guys side of things, Jayden Antonen of Sioux Falls sits in first place after the first day. He fired six birdies, three bogeys to finish day one (-3, 69). Jonathan DeBoer of Twin Brooks is two strokes off the lead, shooting a (-1, 71) and Onida’s Gavin Colson qualified for the Notah Begay Junior Golf National Championships, he sits in a four way tie for seventh place in Spearfish.

 

Day two continues out west in Spearfish on Thursday at Spearfish Canyon Golf Course.
