PIERRE, S.D.(DRGNews)- The National Weather Service says a thunderstorm passed through Pierre around 8pm Monday and caused damage to trees and structures.

Meteorologist Renee (ra-nay) Wise says there was a sudden 80+mph gust of wind as the thunderstorm broke apart.

Many people can picture what it looks like when a building collapses and Wise says it’s much the same thing when a storm collapses.

Most of the damage reported so far has been in the east and north parts of Pierre.
