Aberdeen City Council votes to keep one-way Main Street

ABERDEEN, S.D (Hub City Radio)- At the Aberdeen, SD City Council meeting earlier this Monday evening, October 6th, the City Council voted unanimously on an 8-0 vote to keep downtown Main Street as a one-way road.

At the start Aberdeen Attorney Ron Wager(Wag-er) went over the two resolutions the council was voting on.  One dealt with the repeal of the resolution making it two-way Main Street back on September 22nd.

Wager discuss the other resolution dealing with the adjustment for the Capital Improvement Plan.

Councilman Alan Johnson who was opposed to two-way Main acknowledged the hard work citizens did to likely put this to a vote of the people.

Four of the council people who voted in favor of two-way Main Street all voted to repeal.  Councilman David Novstrup felt this issue was ripping the city apart.

Councilwoman voted in favor to repeal but discuss the main goal for support was to bring more attention to downtown Aberdeen.

Follow the vote was the second resolution to address the Capital Improvement Plan.  Mayor Schaunaman suggested the $200,000 that was to be used for Main Street now could be used for manhole rehabilitation projects instead.

First reading was approved on a 8-0 vote.  2nd reading will come up on Monday, October 20th.
