WATERTOWN, S.D. (KWAT) — A stunning development today in the investigation of a fatal car crash on Highway 212 in Watertown.
Police don’t believe it was an accident that took the life of 43 year-old Dawn Meyer.
Assistant Police Chief Tim Toomey says investigators working the case believe the 16 year-old boy from Moorhead, Minnesota who slammed into Meyer’s car head on in front of Target did so intentionally, and the case is now considered a homicide investigation.
The speed limit where the crash occurred is 35 miles per hour. Toomey was asked how they determined the juvenile’s car was doing in excess of 100 miles per hour.
The investigation is far from over.
The juvenile involved in the crash was a runaway. He is hospitalized in Sioux Falls with serious injuries.
Toomey says the boy has not been interviewed yet. Charges in the case are pending.
