Joel K. Bremmon, 68, of George IA, passed away, Thursday, January 29, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Memorial services will be 10:00am Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster.
Born on September 19, 1957, in Britton, South Dakota, Joel lived a life defined by hard work, mechanical ingenuity, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors and classic cars. Joel grew up on a farm near Britton. It was there that he learned the value of hard work and dedication through milking cows, working with livestock, haying fields, building fences, and planting and harvesting crops. From an early age, he also learned hunting and trapping skills from his father, Orland, in the hills of northeast South Dakota. Joel carried these skills throughout his life, often passing them on to the younger generation.
Joel was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Britton, SD. He graduated from high school in Britton in 1975 and went on to earn an Automotive Technician degree from Lake Area Vocational School in Watertown, South Dakota. His passion for engines and transmissions—especially Mopars—was not just a hobby but the foundation of a lifelong career.
Joel married Jodie Pischke in Webster on October 27, 1978, and together they welcomed a daughter, Amanda. On December 2, 1989, he married Terri Dexter in Webster, South Dakota. Terri brought four children into the family, and together with Amanda, they formed a blended family rooted in love. Joel and Terri shared 36 years of marriage, building a big, beautiful life together.
He began his professional journey at Midwest Motors in Webster, South Dakota, where he worked for many years honing his skills as a mechanic. Eventually, Joel took the leap to open his own auto repair shop in Clark, South Dakota. After selling the business, he continued working as a mechanic at various shops throughout the area. Later in his career, Joel transitioned into maintenance work at Glacial Lakes Energy ethanol plant in Watertown before concluding his working years with maintenance duties at Avantara Nursing Home in Clark.
Joel’s love for all things automotive extended beyond the workplace. He was a devoted car enthusiast who could often be found at car shows or drag races. His motto—“MOPAR or NoCar”—was more than just a saying; it was a way of life. He had a particular talent for working on old Mopars and was especially skilled with engines and transmissions.
Outside of the garage and workshop, Joel was an avid outdoorsman who relished every opportunity to hunt and fish. Whether tracking game through the woods or casting a line into quiet waters, he found peace and purpose in nature. Classic rock music often provided the soundtrack to these moments—another passion that brought him joy throughout his life.
Joel was known by those around him as firm but fair—a man who stood by his word and treated others with respect and honesty. These qualities earned him admiration from family members, friends, coworkers, and customers alike.
He is lovingly remembered by his children: Amanda Bremmon and Megan of Duluth, Minnesota; Kenny McIntosh and Kristi of Watertown, South Dakota; Ashley Gier and Aaron of Hawley, Minnesota; Kristen Thompson of Watertown, South Dakota; and Alisha Grove and Shane of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered by his siblings: Mark Bremmon of Brookings, South Dakota; Janet Dixon and Alan of Aberdeen, South Dakota; Brenda McFarland and Ken of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Kevin Bremmon of Webster, South Dakota; and Dennis Bremmon and Val of Webster, South Dakota. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews. Joel was preceded in death by his parents Orland and Geraldine Bremmon; brothers David Bremmon and Bryan Bremmon; and grandparents Rose and Edwin Bremmon as well as Henry and Eva Weifenbach.
May Joel’s memory bring comfort to those who knew him—and may the roar of Mopar engines always echo in tribute to his legacy.
