Keith Marlowe Farmen, 71, of Redfield, SD, passed away surrounded by family on January 29th, 2026, after an eight-month battle with lung cancer. Born July 15th, 1954, in Webster, SD, Keith was the son of Clara (Hanson) and Arthur “Maurice” Farmen. He was the baby of eight children, six of whom have gone before him – Maureen, Clayton, Alice, Errol, Calvin and David. He is survived by one sister, Judy Schaunaman of Roslyn, SD.
Keith met Laurie Baus while working in the meat department at Super Value in Redfield, and they were married in 1979. Together, they raised seven children. Keith’s career in meat processing continued at Farmers Meat Processing where he started in 1982. He purchased the business in 1990 and continued there until his retirement in 2020. His work ethic and dedication to his community were unwavering.
Keith was a passionate fisherman, golfer, bowler, and softball, billiards and card player. He loved playing cards with friends, often sharing a drink and plenty of laughs. His competitive spirit made him a fun opponent, and he could always be counted on for a good time around the table. Keith had a sharp mind and was known for his keen intellect, despite not having a college education. He loved challenging himself with crossword puzzles.
Keith is survived by his partner, Gloria Gakin; his children, Thomas (Nicole) Farmen of Redfield, Renae (Curtis) Brooks of Yankton, SD, Tony (Jamie) Farmen of Fort Pierre, SD, Brittany (Jason) Thier of Dickinson, ND, Ericka (DJ) Doxsee of Aberdeen, SD, Alex Farmen of Redfield, and Oliver Farmen (Tori Ray) of Rapid City, SD; and his grandchildren, Emma, Nathan and Elliot Farmen, Gibson and Lincoln Brooks, Jackson and Zoey Halvorson, Charlie Thier, Dexten Doxsee and Bryn Marvel.
A visitation will be held at 1 PM, Thursday, February 5th, 2026, at Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield with a funeral service to follow at 2 PM. Reverend Lorah Houser Jankord will officiate. A celebration of life will be held following the service at Chrystal’s Bar. The burial service will be at 11 AM on Friday, February 6th, at the Fron Lutheran Cemetery near Roslyn, SD. If interested, the family requests memorial donations to Community Memorial Hospital (PO Box 420, Redfield, SD, 57469) nursing staff for the excellent care they provided “Butcher” in his final weeks.
