BROOKINGS, S.D.(KBRK)- On Monday, state lawmakers failed to override Gov. Larry Rhoden’s two vetoes from the recent legislative session.
One of those vetoes was of House Bill 1138 — a bill requiring licensure of non-medical home care agencies.
District 7 state Rep. Mellissa Heermann, R-Brookings was the bill’s sponsor.
She said she amended the bill to address early criticisms.
She said once she changed the bill, the criticisms shifted.
Heermann said — if re-elected — she will reintroduce the bill.
The state House on Monday voted 36-27 to override the governor’s veto, falling short of the 47 votes required for a two-thirds majority — so the veto stands.
