Wolves Split With Bulldogs & Beavers

ABERDEEN, SD (NSUWolves.com) [SAT] – Northern State notched a win and a loss in its doubleheader against Minnesota Duluth. Northern State’s Aune Boben had herself a day, recording five hits (seven plate appearances), three runs, three RBIs, two home runs and 11 strikeouts (7.0 IP).

GAME ONE: MINNESOTA DULUTH 9, NORTHERN STATE 4

  • In the loss, NSU tallied four runs, eight hits, four RBIs, a home run, two errors, 21 putouts, seven assists and six strikeouts
  • Northern State started off game one a little shaky, allowing five runs and two hits on one error in the opening inning
  • But the Wolves responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the first when Alicia Jeanson crossed home from second on a single from Sydney Anderson
  • The Bulldogs added two more runs in the third on RBI singles from Morgan McMillan and Emma Ambroz
  • After Jeanson singled to left, Boben stepped up to the plate and delivered a rocket over the fence in left-center to bring the Wolves within four
  • After another Wolves score in the bottom of the fifth, the Bulldogs recorded two hits that resulted in two runs in the sixth to extend their lead and take the first game of the doubleheader

GAME TWO: NORTHERN STATE 4, MINNESOTA DULUTH 1

  • Northern State rallied in game two, taking the game 4-1 while recording four runs, seven hits, three RBIs, one home run, two errors, 18 putouts, seven assists and 11 strikeouts from the rubbe
  • After a strikeout and two fly outs in the top of the first, Boben stepped up to the plate with one out in the inning
  • Similar to game one, the sophomore ripped one over the left-center fence to jog the bases for the second time of the day, bringing her home run total to four on the year
  • With a leadoff double in the second, a single and a throwing error gave Sierra Thomas of UMD the opportunity to score and tie the game at 1-1
  • Boben ran through the next three innings, recording seven strikeouts, including striking out the side in the fourth
  • After an impressive nine-strikeout game in her last time on the mound, Boben topped it with 11 strikeouts today, a career high for the sophomore as a Wolf, breaking the record she set for herself Tuesday
  • Kinsley Stover, Boben and Anderson all scored for the Wolves in the fifth, with the team racking up three runs and four hits in the inning
  • With three runners on base in the top of the sixth, Dessa Bryant snatched a drive from Daphine Evans out of the air to end the game early

ABERDEEN, SD (NSUWolves.com) [SUN] – Northern State split their home outings with Bemidji State, winning the first game 8-5 before losing the second game, 2-1. The Wolves’ win was highlighted by an eight-run third inning, tallying seven hits in the inning.

  • The Wolves recorded eight runs on 10 hits, eight RBIs, one triple, a pair of doubles, four strikeouts from the rubber, three fielding errors, 21 putouts and seven assists in their 8-5 victory over the Beavers
  • After giving up two runs in the first and another in the third, Northern State quickly faced a three-run deficit in the bottom of the third
  • Catcher Emma Owens found herself on, getting hit by a pitch with two strikes checked in the count
  • After Hailey Cota struck out, the order rounded, with Aune Boben advancing Owens off a single
  • With two on, freshman Sydney Anderson did what she does best, recording a hit, this time bringing Owens and Boben in to score
  • After a walk from Tevan BryantTess Miller, who entered the game earlier in the inning, sent a shot into center to bring Jeanson home and tie the game at 3-3, but the Wolves weren’t finished
  • Kinsley Stover brought Anderson home off a single to right field before Owens came back to the plate and recorded a three-RBI triple to clear the bases
  • Owens would cross the plate yet again in the inning with an RBI single from Cota to record their eighth run and seventh hit of the inning
  • The Beavers would put two more on the board in the sixth, but the Wolves would hold strong and defeat the Beavers, 8-5

  • The Wolves notched a run on five hits, one RBI, one error, a triple, a double, two strikeouts on the mound, 21 putouts and seven assists in their 2-1 loss in the second game
  • Both teams chalked up a run in the first, with the Beavers striking at the top of the inning, bringing Jackie Larsen home courtesy of a double from Alayna DeGraef
  • After Boben struck out to open the game for NSU, Alicia Jeanson ripped a shot to left-center, rounding first and second bases for a quick triple
  • Anderson sent a pitch up the left line to bring Jeanson home and tie the game at 1-1
  • The game went scoreless for the next four innings until Larsen racked up a leadoff double to open the sixth
  • With Avery Amidon on first (single), the second baseman stole second
  • As soon as the ball left the catcher’s hands, Larsen made a play for home, tallying the final run of the game
