ABERDEEN, S.D. (Press Release) – The public will get a chance to tour Northern State University’s new Harvey C. Jewett IV Regional Science Education Center during Gypsy Days.

An open house will be held 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, at the science center, located at the corner of Twelfth Avenue Southeast and South State Street. Self-led tours are encouraged, with students and faculty stationed throughout the building to show off each feature.

The two-story Jewett Regional Science Education Center, which opened this fall, provides a new home for NSU’s biology and chemistry programs. The state-of-the-art facility will enhance research and science education for the entire region.

Features include faculty offices and classroom space; biology labs, chemistry labs and physics labs; a climate-controlled cadaver lab; a classroom fitted to contain a GIS lab; and an imaging suite that houses Northern’s confocal microscope and two fluorescent scopes. The facility also includes a greenhouse and landscaping including Dakota native prairie grasses.
