ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- The 2026 South Dakota Bike Summit took place Friday and Saturday here in Aberdeen.
On Friday, they visited the projected site for the new Aberdeen Bike Park on Northwest 24th Avenue and biked some of the trails in Aberdeen.
The feature speaker on Friday was Uriah Steber of Benchmark Trails.
Steber talks about how they got involved with the Aberdeen project.
Steber compare the need for a facility like this for those interested in cycling.
On Saturday was a day with a series of panel discussion talking about the benefits of cycling onto the community.
It was kicked off with Mayor Travis Schaunaman welcoming them to Aberdeen.
Chris Goldade is a technition with Soil Health Coalition. He talks about the prairie and how it relates to cycling.
There was a panel discussion on how to get started within the community.
Tyler Berrian with Aberdeen Parks, Recreation, and Forestry talks about a survey done by them addressing the various trails within Aberdeen.
Brookings Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Director Darren Hoff talks about how they got started there.
President Mike Mueller of the OaheWheelmanCycling Club talks about the spark needed to get clubs going across the state.
Another panel dealt with what the economic impact cycling could have to the community.
Casey Weismantel with the Aberdeen Convention & Visitor Bureau believe for this to work need support of everyone within the community.
Owner of the BMX track here in Aberdeen, Kyle Oswald provide an example of hosting a national event.
Director of Aberdeen Parks, Rec, and Forestry, Matt Braun talks about their role in getting the new bike park at the northwest portion of Aberdeen.
Braun and Krik Hulstein with South Dakota Tourism talks about how the interest in cycling has increase over the past few years.
Mueller offered a challenge to those connected with bike clubs all across the state to further promote cycling in South Dakota.
They also had an opportunity to tour the BMX track and complex in downtown Aberdeen.
