Wilmer Deibert, 93

Memorial Service with Military Rites for Wilmer M. Deibert is 10:30 AM, Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Schriver Funeral Home, 720 N. 6th Street, Ipswich, SD with Pastor Jason Dignan officiating.  Inurnment will be 2:30 PM at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen, SD.   Following the Memorial Service, family and friends are invited to the United Church of Christ Fellowship Hall, 221 4th Street, Ipswich, SD for a time of lunch, fellowship and remembrance.

Visitation is one hour prior to the Memorial Service on Wednesday.

 

Wilmer Myren Deibert was born July 18, 1932, in Campbell County, South Dakota, to Emanual and Alvina (Gatzkie) Deibert.  He was raised on the family farm with his three siblings.

After graduating high school from Herreid, SD, Wilmer attended trade school for telegraphy.  Then he joined the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1955 after the Korean War.

On March 22, 1956, Wilmer married Bernice Beck.  They were married 62 years and had 2 children: Myren and Kerry.  In 1970, the family moved to Ipswich, SD.  Wilmer worked for 30 years as the County Executive Director for ASCS.

Wilmer was a member of Richland Church and was part of the Ipswich Volunteer Fire Department for many years.  He loved fishing, hunting, softball, woodworking and wintering in Texas.

After suffering a stroke in 2023, Wilmer moved to Friendship Haven Nursing Home in Fort Dodge, IA.  He resided there until his death. He was blessed by many family and friends who visited, called and wrote to him in his final years.

Wilmer died Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge, IA at the age of 93.

Wilmer is survived by his daughter Kerry (Lynn) Hanish, Johnston, IA; grandchildren Samuel (Jenny) Hanish, Hawaii, Abigail (Sky) Paxton, IA, Rebekah Hanish, IA, Maxwell (Brienna) Hanish, IA, Sophia Hanish, IA; eleven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Wilmer is preceded in death by his wife Bernice, son Myren, parents, siblings, nieces, nephew, and many dear friends.

Wilmer loved God and his favorite Bible verse was John 5: 24,25.
