District 3 candidates reflect on their victories on election night

ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- Back on Tuesday night, District 3 candidates for the South Dakota Senate Katie Washnok and South Dakota House Tim Hanigan picked up victories in their respective campaigns.

They both appeared on the KSDN Midday Report Friday to look back on that.

Washnok & Hanigan talked about going door to door to get a sense on what the voters were saying to them.

There were accusations made by their opponents addressing the “dark money” used in their campaigns.  Washnok clarified where the money came from.

Washnok talked about a key issue that helped drove the vote out for them was economic development.

Hanigan also believed education was another motivation for people coming out to vote.

The landscape of the next legislature looks to be very different than what it was in 2025 & 2026.  Hanigan was asked if this group can be flexible depending on who the next Governor of the state is going to be.

Washnok has no challenger in November.  She will be serving her first term in the Senate.  Hanigan along with Spencer Sommers advance to the November elections to take on Democrat Erin Ronayne Rudner for the two seats in the South Dakota House.
