HURON, SD (HubCityRadio.com) – Baseball can be a funny game, one day the offense has a hard time scraping a run past home plate, the next day, the offense is hotter than a July day in the desert.
That was the case for the Aberdeen Smittys on Wednesday night in Huron; after losing 9-0 & 9-4 on Tuesday to Yankton Post 12, the Smittys put up 36 runs in a doubleheader split with Huron Post 7.
The Smittys won game one, 21-11 after Jackson Post went 3-4 with three runs scored & he drove in six. Branson Peterson picked up the win on the mound, scattering five hits over five innings and seven strikeouts. Michael Dutenhoffer went 3-5 with a run scored and he drove in four. Karson Borge went 3-5 and crossed home plate three times & drove in three, too.
In game two, the offense was there, but the pitching and defense was not. Even though the Smittys offense put up 15 runs, Huron Post 7 earned the 18-15 win. The Smittys had five errors in the field and just couldn’t wrap up the sweep. The game was tied at 12 going into the top of the sixth, Aberdeen was unable to take the lead & then Post 7 put up six in the bottom of the frame, to take the lead for good.
The Smittys return to the diamond on Friday for a potential four day tournament in Sioux Falls.
