OMAHA, NE (HubCityRadio.com) – The Aberdeen Smittys hit the road down I-29 to the Cornhusker state for the Battle of Omaha Tournament and picked up an opening day split on Thursday, defeating the DuPage Muddogs (IL) 13-2 in five innings, before falling to the Franchise Sidekicks (out of Omaha) 7-2 in game two.
In the first game of the day, the Aberdeen Smittys offense put on a show. In the five inning affair, the Smittys scored in every inning, putting up single tallies in the first and second inning(s) before putting up a crooked number eight in the third inning & completely blowing the game open. Of the twelve Smittys that picked up a bat, eight of them got at least one hit & nine of them reached base.
Joe Cogley was dialed in at the dish; going 2-3 with three runs scored & a pair of RBI. Karson Borge went 2-4 with a run scored & two runs driven in. The Smittys also got an RBI each from Benny Eisenbeisz & Jackson Post. Drake Soderlund earned the win on the hill, he pitched a pair of innings and scattered a pair of hits, surrendered a run and struck out two, in the run rule victory.
In game two, the Smittys dropped a 7-2 contest against the Franchise Sidekicks of Omaha. Benny Eisenbeisz took the loss on the hill, going five innings of work, scattering nine hits, six runs (none of them were earned) and walking two. Aberdeen’s defense struggled in the field, committing three errors, after zero in the first game against DuPage. The Smittys got their lone RBI from JaSean Rivera.
After a 1-1 day, the Smittys return to the diamond on Friday for a pair of games against the DGF Post 397 at 2p & the Helena Senators at 4:30p.
