RENNER, SD (HubCityRadio.com) – The Aberdeen Smittys hit the road on a steamy Monday evening down I-29 to Renner and dropped a pair of games against Renner Post 307; losing in game one, 6-0 & then battling tough, but ultimately falling 13-8 in game two.
In the first game of the early afternoon, the Smittys just couldn’t get their offense cranked up enough. Renner would out-hit Aberdeen 10-3 and put up a crooked number five in the bottom of the 3rd inning & that’d be all the scoring the Royals would need in the first game; although they tacked on another run the bottom of the fourth, too.
In the second game of the day, Aberdeen would strike first with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning and taking an early 2-0 lead. Unfortunately, it took a bit to get the Smittys out of the bottom of the frame, they’d surrendered eight runs and trailed 8-2 after the first. Aberdeen battled back and made things very interesting. The Smittys put up four in the third & two more in the fourth, but the Aberdeen bullpen just couldn’t slow down Renner enough.
The Royals would add single tallies in the fourth & fifth, respectively & then added two more in the sixth. Despite the loss, the Smittys out-hit the Royals 11-10, but had five errors in the field on defense in the five run shortcoming.
Aberdeen returns to the diamond on Wednesday as they’ll take on the Redfield Clay Kiser squad at Fossum Field.
