Actual highs falling short of forecast highs

ABERDEEN, S.D.(HubCityRadio)- For most of the spring and summer months in Aberdeen, the actual highs have fallen roughly five to six degrees short of the forecast highs.  No better example than this week when the city has been under a Heat Advisory through Thursday.  Highs at time has been forecasted to be in upper 90s and at time projected to hit 100 degrees.

National Weather Service meterologist Nathan Fleegel:

Fleegel described the models they use to determine the forecast highs.

Fleegel discussed why the actual highs have been falling short of the forecast highs.

Examples for this week:

Monday Forecast High was 98 was actually 93

Tuesday Forecast High was 97 was actually 93

Wednesday Forecast High was 96 was actually 90

The highs don’t factor in humidity or dewpoint which has made it felt warmer than those temperatures.
