ABERDEEN, SD (HubCityRadio.com) – The Aberdeen Smittys have tied their longest win streak of the season with a pair of wins at Fossum Field on Thursday afternoon. Aberdeen would down Spearfish Post 164 in game one, 9-6 & then Aberdeen would prevail in game two, 13-3.
Spearfish got off to a good start in game one, taking an early 5-1 lead through the first two and a half innings & then the Aberdeen Smittys would turn up the heat on a stifling day. The Smittys would strike for a run in the third & then a five-spot in the fourth inning and they’d never look back. In relief, Jack Berry picked up the win on the hill. He would go five innings, scattering three hits, one earned run & he struck out nine Post 164 batters. On offense, Jehiel Aviles was a perfect 3-3 with a pair of runs scored & he drove in three. Joe Cogley went 2-2 with a run scored & 2RBI.
In the second game of the day, it was a back and forth affair for the first few innings with Aberdeen ahead 4-3 after three innings; but just like last night, the Smittys put up a crooked number seven in the fourth inning and then hit cruise control for the rest of the duration. It was a dominant effort for Aberdeen, out-hitting Post 164 18-2 & Spearfish would also commit four errors in the field, while the home squad committed zero.
Donovan Kiesow went three innings and earning the win on the rubber; he struck out three, while not allowing any runs or hits. Aberdeen’s offense was white-hot; they cranked out 18 hits on the day & were led by the 3-5 effort from Karson Borge, he also drove in three. Joe Cogley went 2-5 with a run scored and three driven in. Michael Dutenhoffer, fresh off of a 3-4 & 4RBI effort vs. Redfield last night, went 3-4 with three runs scored & he drove in two.
