ABERDEEN, S.D.(Hub City Radio)- On Monday night, the Aberdeen City Council held a special session at the Civic Theater.  This session allowed the citizens of Aberdeen to express their views on data centers.

Aberdeen Deputy Mayor Alan Johnson described the purpose of the meeting.

Nineteen people spoke on data centers.  Eighteen of them expressed various concerns about the impact of data centers.

Dawn Shepherd talked about her concerns about the amount of noise they could generate.

Ryan Clay talked about the impact it could have on citizens on utility rates in the city.

Liza Gingras Ronayne talked about the projected water usage of a data center.

Janell Meyer expressed concerns how data centers could impact the environment.

Brodie Mueller talked about the impact data centers have on housing in Aberdeen.

Mueller also believed this could have a negative impact on tourism in Aberdeen.

Kirby Fesler discussed health concerns and talked about AI psychosis.

One person spoke in favor of data centers.  Daniel Eisenbeisz looked to address some of the concerns raised.

Brown County Republican Chairman Rich Hilgeman believes the council needs to be transparent when it comes to data centers.

District 3 House candidate Erin Ronayne Rudner believed there are too many questions for an ordinance to be put in place.

Clark Thares believes the moratorium in place now until November should be extended and a task force is needed to address the concerns.

Alan Johnson run down dates for citizens to be aware of going forward.

No action was done by the city council following the session.
