YANKTON, S.D. (WNAX) – A council dedicated to overseeing juvenile justice reform may have some changes for the 2020 legislature to consider.
The “Juvenile Justice Public Safety Improvement Act Oversight Council” was formed as part of the reform package passed several years ago and met this week in Sioux Falls.
Senator Craig Kennedy of Yankton, a member of the council, says they are hearing about issues across the state.
Kennedy says there are some issues that will need attention.
Kennedy says the hope is to keep minor issues from becoming major issues for kids, parents and law enforcement.
The council will hold another meeting next month to finalize any legislative proposals.
