ABERDEEN, SD (HubCityRadio.com) – Billy Young is stepping down as the Head Coach of the Aberdeen Roncalli Football team.

On Monday, Coach Young posted on his personal Facebook page that he’ll be taking a step back from coaching the Cavaliers.

He posted, “After 27 years, I’ve given this game everything I had, and I know it’s time. That journey took me from Kilgore College to Grapeland High School, Northern State University, Valley Mills High School, Dublin High School, Anderson-Shiro High School, and finally Roncalli High School. At every stop, I have been blessed to coach great athletes and work alongside great assistant coaches.”

Young also thanked his wife, Jill, as well as his son Cade & daughter Katie + all the athletes he’d coached over the 27 years. He said, ‘(the kids) are what this job is all about.’

He was named head football coach at Aberdeen Roncalli in 2017 after spending 2016 as an assistant and over the course of a decade on the sideline, he amassed over 50 wins, including a best 9-1 year in 2022.

Aberdeen Roncalli will be conducting a search for their next head football coach in the coming weeks.
