PIERRE, S.D. (WNAX) – The interim Joint Committee on Appropriations of the South Dakota legislature met Monday in Pierre.

They heard from Department of Health Secretary Kim Malsam-Rysdon about opioid abuse and the state’s response.

Malsam-Rysdon says they got federal funding to deal with the drug issues.

Malsam-Rysdon says they are also working with medical providers, emergency responders and schools.

Malsam-Rysdon says the Department of Health is working with the Department of Social Services on the drug treatment programs.
