STURGIS, S.D. (KBHB) – Black Hills Special Services Cooperative is partnering with the State Department of Public Safety’s Driver Licensing program to help people with developmental disabilities.
Tuesday, at their Sturgis area campus, Driver Licensing staff joined BHSSC officials to take photos and collect signatures to help people supported obtain I.D. cards.
Jane Schrank with the Driver Licensing program says this is the first time they have participated in such a cooperative event.
Schrank says the cards can be used for proof of identity for banking, insurance, boarding commercial airline flights, or anything that requires an individual to prove their identity.
Ronda Feterl with Black Hills Special Service Coop says this event demonstrates the cooperation between the public and private sectors in order to help others.
Schrank says it’s possible this type of program could spread to other areas of the state. Similar organizations can contact the State Department of Public Safety for information.
