RAPID CITY, S.D. (KBHB) — Rapid City Police officials are unveiling a new patrol car with graphic signage promoting “Mission 22,” a national effort to curb the rate of service members suicides.

Rapid City Police spokesman Brendyn Medina talked about the city’s partnership with groups like Mission 22, and the Sergeant Colton Derr (DARE) Foundation, in addressing the combat-related suicide trend, which he says is related to the kind of trauma and burnout that cops can experience, too.

Medina talked about the message seen on the new patrol vehicle which rolls out today, meant to show sufferers that they’re not alone, that they can find help.

Medina says it’s important to send the message to veterans experiencing trauma-related problems, that they’re not alone.

The County is getting a new vehicle as well.

Pennington County Search and Rescue unveils the new Sherp Pro today at the James Kjerstad Event Center at the Central States Fairgrounds. It’s a new all-terrain vehicle on huge flotation tires, with a tank-like ability to move through any terrain or obstacle.
