ABERDEEN, S.D. (HubCityRadio.com) – The 50th celebration of the South Dakota Jazz Festival takes place on Thursday, Jan. 23 at Northern State.
The day starts out in the morning when more than 180 high school jazz students will gather in competitive and non-competitive categories. They will be joined by top selling vocalist and trombonist Aubrey Logan, who will perform that evening in the concert at 7:30 p.m.
Grant Manhart, Director of Jazz Studies at NSU, talked about the event.
Logan, who is known as the Queen of Sass, has appeared on Jimmy Kimmel, The Grammy Awards, and a PBS special. The concert will be in the Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater inside the Johnson Fine Arts Center.
Manhart said she is actually more of an accomplished entertainer than she is musician.
The Jazz Festival is unique in that it allows students an opportunity to learn jazz alongside other aspiring musicians, according to Manhart.
Tickets are available at the door and are $10 for adults and $5 for children, while NSU students are admitted free with an ID.
